Cold Hands/Warm HeartONLINE PILATES CLASSES BY THE LIFT GIRL www.liftgirlpilates.com Cold Hands/Warm Heart. I don’t think that’s as good a thing as it sounds! If your feet and hands are cold, you could very well be dealing with some circulation problems that should spur you on to get your body moving. (“On your feet” and and “Up and at ‘em!”) Yet, when most of us hear Cold Hands/Warm Heart, we want to smile and say, “Awwwwwwwww, that’s so sweet!” I see clients who have a sculpted musculature all the time, and although they seem physically fit, their hands and feet are as pale as a ghost. For me, these particular clients are the hardest to teach because they have difficulty finding their abdominal muscles. They’ve dumped into their joints and relied on their larger muscle groups for so long that anything else feels wrong and unnatural. Clients such as these have sciatica and hamstrings so tightly bound they’re barely able to bend over much less touch their toes. Their necks and cervical spines ALWAYS feels tight. Their range of motion is limited, even when they’re not stressed out. (And that’s kind of scary!) Challenging and rewiring their movement patterns takes awareness, a lot of time, patience, and persistence, but when they’re successful, they’re the most dedicated of clients. When they come to class they’re always roaring and ready to go because they know the end result is so worth the effort. They do their homework and are students of Pilates forever. Once they feel the “good” and the “freedom” in their bodies, they no longer want to go back to that old stiff way of living. Their hands and feet become warm all the time (and not only when they exercise), and their hearts are always smiling! Bye for now! Posted on January 11th, 2011![]() |
