Home…ONLINE PILATES MAT CLASSES BY THE LIFT GIRL www.liftgirlpilates.com Home is where the heart is, and ain’t that the truth! It’s where you let your guard down and just … BE. No more pretending, acting, being something more than you are. It’s a safe place to find your true self, fuel your engine, and restore your EVERYTHING. Resting is just one of the things you do at home. Our bodies are able to revive and recharge in this space. We use our homes to think about, and then talk about, making changes in our lives. It’s the “in between” place of calm where we can map out a plan to make things better, to make our lives run more smoothly and efficiently. In Pilates I always use the terms AND REST, or RETURN HOME in my classes. I use these phrases at the end of an exercise to let my clients know it’s time to take a small break or pause. That doesn’t mean collapsing from fatigue and falling to the floor. It means I’m encouraging them simply to come out of the exercise GENTLY, (which is another term I often use) so that they don’t strain or pull any muscles. HOME can also mean return to a neutral position. A neutral position is a state of balance. It doesn’t mean the muscles aren’t working (because they are). They’re still engaged, awaiting the next exercise. TRANSITIONS are another place to think of as HOME. These are choreographed movement patterns that blend precisely into the next exercise. If you’re using equipment (Reformer, Cadillac, or Tower), HOME can also refer to that time when the spring is closed. There is no tension on the spring itself, so the body remains neutral, set between two exercises. In a private session this valuable “in between” moment is where my clients are able to ask questions about a particular exercise and I can tell them what they need to do differently and what the exercise should be giving them. During this brief period we agree to do a few more reps and make whatever changes are necessary. This is a valuable moment when the mind sends a message to the body… Okay, here we go again! Moving on and doing better than before! Moving forward with more knowledge, strength, and balance. When we are in balance our hearts smile. Life is easier and we are truly happy. HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS… Bye for now!
